In the ever-evolving world of skincare, finding a serum that delivers on its promises of hydration and calmness can be a game-changer. I wanted to find a product designed to quench thirsty skin ~tranquility~ after application (you know, a cool, refreshing, sensation).
Let’s explore how Precision Beauty's Serum fairs in the PPQRS rating:
Price: Winners = $6.99 ($0.11/mL). Full price = $24 CAD ($0.40/mL)
Packaging: Clear glass bottle with eye-dropper. Not sure if it’s just me, but sometimes the eye-dropper is finnicky/ doesn’t draw up desired amount of product
Quality: Had slight cooling sensation right upon application, but would dry with a slightly tacky feeling. Not as cooling as IT’S SKIN Moisture Serum+. Would not necessarily categorize as long lasting moisturizer. No overpowering fragrance. Has a more gel-based consistency compared to other serums I've tried.
Results: Moisturizing for daytime use. Would not recommend for dry skin night time use
Safety:
Hyaluronic Acid: Generally considered very safe for most skin types. It’s a naturally occurring substance in the body and helps with skin hydration
Glycerin: A well-tolerated humectant that attracts moisture to the skin. It’s generally safe for all skin types.
Butylene Glycol: Often used as a solvent and conditioning agent. Generally safe in low concentrations. Some people with very sensitive skin might experience irritation. It’s also been noted as a potential allergen in rare cases.
Panthenol (Provitamin B5):Known for its moisturizing and healing properties. Typically very safe for skin use.
Sodium Hyaluronate: The salt form of hyaluronic acid, which is very effective in hydrating the skin. It is a smaller molecule size than hyaluronic acid, which allows it to penetrate the skin deeper than the larger hyaluronic acid molecule
Sodium PCA (pyrrolidone carboxylate) : A hydrating agent and a component of that is found in our own skin's natural moisturizing factors (NMF).
Dimethicone: A silicone-based polymer that provides smoothness and helps with moisture retention. Although I didn't see any increase in acne, it can sometimes cause breakouts in acne-prone skin.
Ethylhexylglycerin and Phenoxyethanol: Often used as a preservative and skin-conditioning agent. Rare sensitivities can occur. Phenoxyethanol is considered safe in concentrations up to 1%.
Fragrance/Parfum: For those with sensitive skin or allergies, it’s best to choose products without added fragrances.
Overal scoring: 2/5
Compared to the IT'S SKIN Moisture Serum+, I would rather spend a few dollars more for better application and quality of product. Plus, the IT'S SKIN Moisture Serum+ contains ceramides, which this one does not. Very interesting to see how similar ingredients can have such a drastic difference!
