I love to experiment with different skincare products, especially if they come as a good deal! I am an avid shopper at Winners (comment below if you’re also obssessed like me), and absolutely have to check out their beauty section every time I’m there.
Because my skin is quite dry (eczema girlie here), I am always looking for products that will leave my skin feeling hydrated throughout the night. If not, I will start to get a bunch of red, dry patches on my skin in the morning. I love to look for products that contain hyaluronic acid, because it just makes my skin feel plump and hydrated. Thankfully, there are many brands at Winners that have a combination of hyaluronic acid and another ingredient that targets what you’re looking for. For the purpose of this post, I will review the brand IT’S SKIN.
When I’m buying a product, I like to look at these components, following the acronymn PPQRS:
Price (per quantity
Packaging
Quality
Results
Safety
Price: At Winners, I bought this for $9.99 (0.25$/mL), original price can range from $14.99-16.99 (0.37$-0.42$/mL). I used this almost exclusively day and night, and it lasted me about a 2 months
Packaging: It is a sturdy, frosted glass packaging, with a pump dispenser. I often gravitate towards this type of bottle because it is more sanitary. On the down side, it was a bit difficult to get the very last drops at the bottom. I like how it came with a lid for the pump, adding onto the sanitation aspect.
Quality: I loved it! I usually used 1-2 pumps morning and night, but on the days where my skin felt extra dry, I was able to apply more without my skin feeling too heavy or sticky. It had a smooth texture to the application, leaving my sking feeling nice and soft. At times, however, I felt that my skin did feel a bit tight/dry when I woke up. It had a nice, smooth finish as well as a cooling effect. On the days where my skin was very dry, it would have a slight sting to the dry patches, but dissipated quickly afterwards.
Safety:
Hyaluronic Acid: Generally considered very safe for most skin types. It’s a naturally occurring substance in the body and helps with skin hydration
Glycerin: A well-tolerated humectant that attracts moisture to the skin. It’s generally safe for all skin types.
Butylene Glycol: Often used as a solvent and conditioning agent. Generally safe in low concentrations. Some people with very sensitive skin might experience irritation. It’s also been noted as a potential allergen in rare cases.
Panthenol (Provitamin B5):Known for its moisturizing and healing properties. Typically very safe for skin use.
Sodium Hyaluronate: The salt form of hyaluronic acid, which is very effective in hydrating the skin. It is a smaller molecule size than hyaluronic acid, which allows it to penetrate the skin deeper than the larger hyaluronic acid molecule
Sodium PCA (pyrrolidone carboxylate) : A hydrating agent and a component of that is found in our own skin's natural moisturizing factors (NMF).
Ceramide: Ceramides, naturally found in our skin barrier, are lipids that help restore the skin barrier.
Dimethicone: A silicone-based polymer that provides smoothness and helps with moisture retention. Although I didn't see any increase in acne, it can sometimes cause breakouts in acne-prone skin.
Ethylhexylglycerin and Phenoxyethanol: Often used as a preservative and skin-conditioning agent. Rare sensitivities can occur. Phenoxyethanol is considered safe in concentrations up to 1%.
Fragrance/Parfum: For those with sensitive skin or allergies, it’s best to choose products without added fragrances.
Overall rating: 4/5
This was actually my second time buying it, because for the price, I was more than satisfied. Some people don't like the dimethicone, but I actually quite enjoy it because it leaves my skin feeling silky smooth, and did not have any concerns with layering products on top of it. I also tried their Moisture Eye Serum+, which you can check out here.
