If you're like me and absolutely obsessed with the scent of the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream, but don't want to fork over an arm and a leg for something that will last for only a month, then this is the hack for you. There will still be an initial investment, but will leave your bank account a happier in the long run.
Ingredients:
Non-fragranced cream - I use Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion ($14.50 for 500ml = $0.029/mL) , or the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream ($29.71 for 539g = $0.06/mL)
Sol de Janeiro Minim Brazilian Body Fragrance Mist ($51 for 240mL = $0.21/mL) OR Bum Bum Firmeza Firming & Debloating Body Oil ($70 for 100mL = $0.7/mL)
Container ( I reuse a previously bought Sol De Janeiro Bum Bum Cream container or its cheaper counterpart Nutrius Brazilian Cream container. As long as you can easily shake it/mix it, you're golden.
Total cost: $65 - $100 that will last you for 3-4 months instead of 1-2 months, which means Half the cost = savings $$ (Instead of $32.5-$65/month, it will be $16 - $25/month!)
I think it's pretty self explanatory what I'm going to do here, but if you want the details keep reading:
Step 1: Transfer your moisturizer of choice into a container that is easily shakeable.
Step 2: Add your desired amount of fragrance from the mist or the oil into the container
Step 3: Close it up, and shake that thang like you mean it
Step 4: Adjust as per your preferred strength of fragrance.
Note that this is a hack for getting the scent into your lotion, not the consistency or texture. Instead of needing to put on lotion, then fragrance (yes, I'm that lazy), it's condenses my routine to one step only!
I find that using the CeraVe Cream as the base provides a thicker consistency, and adding the oil gives your skin more of a glow compared to the mist. Yes, the original Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream and the Nutrius Cream may have a thicker consistency due to its blend of different butters, but the great thing about this is you can switch up the base lotion/cream with equally beneficial ingredients as long as it has no fragrance. Or hey, if you find a cream that is also fragranced and matches well with the overall scent palette let me know!
Thinking of giving it a go? Let me know how it goes in the comments!
