When it comes to reliable skincare, CETAPHIL has long been a trusted name, known for its commitment to gentle and effective solutions for all skin types. Cetaphil’s reputation as a company is built on its dedication to formulating products that are dermatologist-recommended and suitable for sensitive skin. As a pharmacist, I always recommend Cetaphil or Cerave as first-line products for all skin-types. The Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion is one of the standout products in their lineup, designed to provide long-lasting moisture while maintaining the skin’s natural barrier.
In this review, we'll explore the benefits of the Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion. Let’s delve into what makes this lotion a worthy addition to your skincare routine using the PPQRS rating scale:
Price: I bought it at Shopper's Drug Mart for about $18 for 225g, which equates to $0.08/mL. Can vary between $15.43- $26 depending on your retailer of choice.
Packaging: Standard squeeze bottle, however it does come in a larger 473mL container that is a pump dispenser.
Quality: Although it is branded as a lotion, I found it still equally as moisturizing as a cream formulation. This makes it a great option for both summer and winter seasons. It wasn't overly runny like how some lotions are, which made allows it to have provide a long-lasting feeling of hydration throughout the day. Like all Cetaphil products, it is fragrance free and non-comedogenic (does not clog pores).
Results: Using it for about 3 months, I noticed my skin's hydration and texture have an overall improvement. The hydration was maintained even on the driest summer days. I could also rely on this product when I had eczema flares. I would smack a sh*t ton of it on and would definitely help with retaining water to my skin. Although it burns a bit at first (due to the higher water content compared to creams), it absorbs quickly, which allows for increased frequency of application throughout the day if necessary.
Safety:
Water: Serves as a solvent
Glycerin: A well-tolerated humectant that attracts moisture. It is safe and effective for most skin types.
Dimethicone: A silicone-based ingredient that provides smoothness and helps with moisture retention. It is typically safe but may cause breakouts in acne-prone skin.
Petrolatum: A highly effective occlusive agent that helps lock in moisture. It is generally safe and beneficial for dry skin but can feel heavy for some. I believe this ingredient is what makes the consistency more cream-like than lotion
Cetearyl Alcohol: A blend of cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol. A fatty alcohol that helps with emulsification and stabilizing the ingredients, blending oil and water-based ingredients to provide a smooth texture.
Cetyl Alcohol: Similar to cetearyl alcohol, it is used for its emollient properties. Helps thicken formulations and adds additional moisturizing properties.
Panthenol (Provitamin B5): Known for its moisturizing and healing properties. It is generally safe and beneficial for skin hydration.
Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin: Both are common preservatives that are well tolerated. Phenoxyethanol is safe in concentrations up to 1%. It may cause irritation in very sensitive individuals.
Overall rating: 5/5: The CETAPHIL Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion is a well-formulated product that balances effectiveness with safety. Its ingredients are chosen to deliver hydration while maintaining a gentle profile. For most users, it offers a reliable solution to dry skin with minimal risk of irritation. A great alternative for daily use, both morning and night! 100% pharmacist recommended (:
